Have you ever thought why some people itching their anal area many times day and night , while sitting, standing, sleeping even walking. These are the symptoms of pinworm infection and if someone is suffering from pinworm infection then you have to aware and take essential precautions and treatment. Let's go in details of pinworm. 

What Is Pinworm?


Pinworms, also known as Enterobius vermicularis, are small, thin, white parasitic worms that commonly infect the intestines of humans, especially children but can affect people of any age. Pinworm infection are typically harmless and easily treatable.


Why Pinworm Moves Around The Anus Area?


1. Female pinworm migrate to anus area typically during night to lay thousands of eggs. The skin around this area provides moisture for the eggs to survive until it transferred to another host.

2. Movement of female pinworm to the anus area cause itching. When a person scratches the itching area, pinworm eggs stick to the finger and get under their nails. It is easy to transfer egg to other surface or mouth leading to reinfection.

Symptoms of pinworm infection:


1. One of the most common symptoms of pinworm infection is itching in the anus area which often worsens at night .

2. Other symptoms is that a person is difficulty in falling asleep or waking early and unable to go back to sleep.

3. Affect overall mood and behavior of a person as itching and irritation occurs.  

4. Loss of appetite (not feeling hungry) may occurs in which person consume little food or does not feel hungry.

Causes Of Pinworm Infection:


1. Pinworm eggs are very small which can be accidentally transferred from hand to the mouth.

2. By touching infected persons clothes, bed and then touching your mouth.

3. Because of contaminated food or water can also cause pinworm infection.

4. Not washing your hands clearly after toilet and before eating. 

Identifying pinworm infection:


Tape test: It involves pressing a piece of clear tape against the anus to collect eggs, then looked under at microscope to confirm the infection.

Visual inspection: It means looking around the anus or in the stool (waste product of digestion) to see if you can spot the worms directly.

Preventing pinworm infection:


1. Take Albendazole Anthelmintic drugs which kill the worm, which should be taken as single dose which may need to repeated after two weeks

2. While taking drugs it should be keep in mind that do not consume non-veg, sugar. Try to consume bitter food such as Bitter Gourd, bitter flower/Teeta phool etc

3. Washing hand with soap regularly before eating and after using toilet.

4. Avoid scratching the anal area and wash your hand if you do.

5. Keep finger nails short and clean to prevent the spread of eggs.

6. Always change and wear clean clothes and wash your clothes, towels regularly with hot water.

7.Avoid nail biting as this habit will easily spread egg to the mouth.

.Keep the anal area clean and dry so that pinworm cannot lays eggs.

9.Doorknobs and counter tops must be regularly clean to prevent the spread of pinworm infection.

Proper food hygiene practices:


1. Always wash fruit and vegetables before eating

2. Food should be prepared in proper hygienic condition.
