How to become a good public speaker 


Do you wish to develop your public speaking skills? Do you wish to talk flawlessly in front of hundreds of people and exude confidence on stage?


If you haven't spoken in front of an audience before, you probably either want to improve your public speaking skills or you've come to the conclusion that doing so isn't something you'll be good at. and you've given up trying to be a public speaker.


A good public speaker who can hold his audience's single minded attention from start to finish. Many of our leaders today across all political lines are very good speakers-they are eloquent and convincing in their speeches. Public speaker is similar to swimming. 

To learn swimming you must overcome your fear of water. How do you do that? By swimming in the pool as often as possible and trying again and again. The first few times you might swallow some water but once you gain the confidence, picking up the technique is not so difficult. The same with being on stage. You first need to build up your self confidence and lose your fear . Only with practice you can build your self confidence. If you do not have problem talking with a few of your friend and putting across your point of view to them , you can learn to adress a room full of people.


Let me share some of my thoughts with you

Know the room: Be familiar with the place whom you will speak. Arrive early, walk around the speaking area and practise using the microphone.You now know mentally beforehand how large your audience could be. 


Know the audience: If you are speaking to your school mates, no problems! These are friends that you interact with every day. Hang around and mingle with the audience. If it is a room full of strangers sick out a few and talk with them beforehand .You will feel yourself automatically slipping into a comfort zone. 


Know your material: You may be relaxed and confident on stage, but If you are not on top of your content, then you have not done justice to yourself. If you are not familiar with your material or are uncomfortable with it nervousness will increase. The age-old adage "practice makes a man perfect holds perfectly true"


You are the best person to correct yourself. Practise in front of a mirror better still, record yourself on a smart phone and play it back Make note of your body language your eye movements and your delivery style. 


What should you remember while speaking? 

Audience is your support: 

Realise that your audience wants you to speak well. Audience always want you be interesting, stimulating, informative and entertaining. 


Do not apologise :

 if you mention you are nervous or apologise for any problem you think you have with your speech, you may be seeking the audience attention to something that had not noticed. Remain silent. 


Try humour: 

Humour is the most wonderful tool that any good public speaker uses. A little humour not only relaxes you but also warm the audience towards you. 


Leran to relax: 

Feeling nervous before giving a speech is natural and healthy. Its shows you care about doing well but too much nervousness is not good. Five minutes you go on to the stage sit down or stand comfortably with your back straight. Breathe in slowly and hold your breathe for 4 to 5 seconds then slowly exhale . In order to relax your facial muscles open your mouth and eyes wide and then close them tightly. 


Think positively: 

Imagine yourself working confidently on to the stage as audience applauds. Imagine yourself speaking with clarity, conviction and confidence. When you visualise yourself as successful you will be successful.


 Speak in short sentence: 

We often loose ourselves and audience in the long winding sentence. Speaking in short sentence also ensures that you will make less grammatical errors. 


Be friendly: 

You have to win over the audience in the first few minutes. While speaking do not talk down to the audience. Talk to them as a friend's. You could break the ice with a short anecdotes or joke but do not overdo it. Never make personal insult or use abusive language. 


Modulate your voice: 

Your speech should resemble a moving train . Sometimes you need to go slow and sometimes you need to pick up speed. To drive a point home you sometimes need to drop your voice to a whisper or speak a little louder. Do not shout! 


Enjoy yourself: 

It is the most important and final tip. It involves mix of preparation and mindset.

1. It enhance communication Skills Giving public speeches improves your capacity to communicate concepts succinctly and efficiently. You can develop your ability to express yourself clearly, rationally, and captivatingly by practicing frequently.


2. It increases confidence. Speaking in front of a group of people boosts confidence. Gaining confidence and experience in speaking in front of an audience helps you overcome your fear of public speaking, which also increases your assertiveness in many context.

Positive Visualization:

3.Evaluate the criticism in a positive light

 6. Accept and Change
